Approximately one in five patients on DOACs facing bleeding or urgent surgery show no detectable DOAC levels. Notably, the DOASENSE test strip offers outstanding negative predictive value and was not mentioned in this article. There is a need to increase the knowledge around DOAC testing, as mentioned by the authors in this paper the awareness of clinicians of the need to obtain a rapid DOAC level, as with an INR result for warfarin in an emergency, is lacking. DOASENSE is quick, easy and cost-effective.
